Whether you’ve picked up a used or new Tesla, these add-ons are good to consider. I’ve kept my Model Y setup simple, but the best Tesla accessories can come in handy.
Best Tesla Accessories and Add-Ons

Here’s what Amazon lists as the best accessories (Amazon affiliate links throughout this article). Although, it’s a wide search and I’ve dived deeper into each type of Tesla product. I’ll share what I think is most useful, and add-ons you can skip altogether.
Let’s look at a full list of the top Tesla accessories. Reading below, you’ll find the essentials for charging, comfort, maintenance and safety. On top of that, I’ve included car camping gear and other fun accessories.
Tesla Essentials for Charging, Comfort, and Safety
Depending on how you plan to use your Tesla, these might be must-have accessories.
1. Mobile Chargers
Mobile chargers let you charge your Tesla anywhere with an outlet. Add an adapter to use public chargers that aren’t Tesla. These are a must-have for travel or backup charging.
2. Tesla Charging Lock
This small charging lock can stop others from unplugging your charger. It clips onto the charging cable for extra safety, especially at public stations. It’s a low cost for a little more peace of mind.
3. Home Charging Station
A wall connector charges your Tesla faster at home. It installs in your garage and is super easy to use. Just plug in when you park.
4. All-Weather Floor Mats
Tesla floor mats can keep your Tesla’s floors clean from mud, snow, and spills. They should be strong, easy to wash, and fit perfectly in place. For a full review, check out these Tesla floor mats. There are a few issues with matts to keep in mind when buying.
5. License Plate Frames
A license plate frame can add a nice touch to your car’s look. Some are simple, some are more flashy. If you buy high quality holders, they can be easy to install and shouldn’t rust. However, for most people, the default plate holders that come with your Tesla should be fine.
If you live in a two-plate state, here’s a quick guide on installing the front license plate holder. It should come with a new Tesla, often found in the trunk.
6. Paint Protection Strips
These clear strips can protect your paint from rock chips and scratches. You can put them on doors, bumpers, and edges. They help keep your Tesla looking new. Although, this is one of the Tesla accessories I’ve skipped…
For most people, Tesla PPF isn’t worth it. But some smaller strips for high risk areas might be worth it. For example, door handles have more wear and tear. Some small low cost strips might come in handy.
7. Mud Flaps and Splash Guards
Mud flaps can stop dirt, rocks, and water from hitting your car’s body. They help protect the paint and reduce mess. Depending on where you drive your Tesla, they can be good for all seasons.
8. Door Sill Protectors
These guards stop scratches when people step in and out. They fit over the door sills and come in cool styles. They protect and upgrade the look.
9. Storage Bins and Organizers
Here are some of the top bins and organizers on Amazon. Check them out and look for ones with lots of reviews.
Also, many Tesla Model Y owners overlook a little extra storage space. Here’s a short video that shows where it’s at…
10. Car Phone Mount
New Teslas have built-in phone holders and wireless charging. Although, they’re down lower and can take your eyes away from the road. Picking up a higher phone mount can keep your eyes higher and phone in place while you drive. It makes maps and calls easy to see. Some even charge your phone wirelessly. Here are some top car phone mounts on Amazon.
11. Screen Protector
A screen protector can help keep your Tesla’s touchscreen safe from scratches. It’s easy to stick on and helps reduce glare and fingerprints.
While on the topic of the Tesla screen, do you know how to fix the Tesla screen if it freezes? It froze on me while driving down the highway. I’m glad I learned this beforehand.
12. Cup Holder Inserts
Cup holder inserts can stop drinks from sliding or spilling. They should fit snug in the console and make cleanup easier. Great for keeping things tidy. However, this is one of many Tesla accessories you might want to skip. It might depend on if you have a favorite drinking mug that doesn’t fit well in the standard holders.
13. Front Window Sunshade
A front window sunshade covers your windshield when parked. It keeps your Tesla cooler and protects the screen and seats from sun damage. If down South in warmer weather, this can be a big help on hot days. For a full review, check out these Tesla sunshades.
14. Roof Window Sunshade
Tesla roof sun shades also block heat. It helps keep the car cool and blocks the bright sun. With the best roof sunshades, they’re easy to clip in and take out. This is a top accessory for the Model Y.
15. Seat Covers
Seat covers protect your seats from spills, dirt, and wear. They’re great for kids, pets, or long drives. You can pick ones that match your style.
16. Pet-friendly Accessories
These keep your pets safe and your seats clean. Seat hammocks stop fur and scratches, while barriers keep pets from jumping up front. Great for trips with dogs and cats.
17. Spare Wheel
A spare wheel helps if you get a flat tire. It fits in the trunk and can save you from being stuck. Good for peace of mind on long drives. For new Tesla buyers, it’s a common complaint that they don’t come with a spare.
18. Tesla Lift Pucks
Lift pucks protect your Tesla when using a jack. They fit into the jack points to keep the battery safe. A good service center should have these. But if travel in remote areas, they can come in handy.
19. Tire Compressor
A tire compressor lets you fill your tires on the go. Just plug it into the car and inflate. Helps keep tires at the right pressure for safety and range. For any car, I recommend having one of these. I had one with my old car and now have it always along in my Model Y.
20. Tire Repair Kit
This kit fixes small tire holes fast. It’s a quick fix until you can get a new tire. Handy for road trips or places with no help nearby.
21. Emergency Driving Kit
An emergency kit has things like a first aid kit, tools, and flashlights. It’s smart to keep one in your car for safety. You never know when you’ll need it.
22. Trunk Cargo Net Cover
A cargo net or cover keeps your stuff in place and out of sight. It helps stop theft and keeps things from rolling around. Great for shopping bags or gear.

24. USB Drive for Sentry Mode Dashcam Footage
A USB drive saves video from your Tesla’s dashcam and Sentry Mode. It’s great for safety and proof if something happens. Just plug it in and it starts working. If you buy a new Tesla, one with a lot of storage should be included. But if you use sentry mode often, extra storage could come in hand. And if buying a used Tesla, you might need to pick one up.
25. Hubcap and Wheel Protectors
These protect your wheels from scratches and curb damage. Some also make your car look sportier. Easy to snap on and replace if needed. However, since I’m a careful driver, I’ve skipped this Tesla accessory.
26. Winter Tires
Winter tires can help your Tesla grip the road in snow and ice. They give better control and shorter stops in cold weather. A must-have for extreme winter driving. Although, for most winter driving, you’ll be fine with the default tires.
27. Car Cover (for Outdoor Storage)
A car cover keeps dust, rain, and sun off your Tesla. Good for outdoor parking or long trips. It helps protect the paint and glass from damage.
28. Automatic Garage Door Opener
An automatic garage opener links your Tesla to your garage. It can open the door as you drive up and close it as you leave. Simple and hands-free. You can buy one directly from Tesla. And at the time of writing this, it’s $350. That’s steep and you can find more affordable ones on Amazon.
Tesla Camping Accessories for Adventurers
I’ve lived out of a Tesla Model Y for close to a year. To say the least, I’ve gotten to know it well. Whether you’re doing a weekend camping trip, or longer, here are some top accessories…
29. Camping Pad or Custom Tesla Mattress

31. Full Window Covers
To add to the sunshades above, side covers can also block light and heat from getting in. They help keep your Tesla cool and give you more privacy. Perfect for naps, camping, or sunny days. Here’s a more thorough review of Tesla sunshades.
32. Backup Battery Pack
A backup battery pack can charge your phone, laptop, or other gear. Great for travel, camping, or when power goes out. Many fit in the glove box or center console. Or you can pick up bigger packs for longer adventures away from easy charging.
33. Car Flashlights
Car flashlights are small but bright. Handy for emergencies, flat tires, or dark parking spots. Some charge by USB and fit right in your door or cup holder.
34. Roof Rack for Cargo
A roof rack lets you carry more stuff on top of your Tesla. Use it for luggage, skis, or gear. Easy to add and take off when not in use. This is a great Tesla accessory if you have a lot of things to pack along.

Tesla Fun Accessories

37. Puddle Lights
Puddle lights shine a picture on the ground when you open your door. Some show the Tesla logo or other fun images. They help you see where you step and make your car stand out in the dark.
38. Performance Pedal Covers
These covers go over your brake and gas pedals. They look sporty and give your feet more grip. Many are made from metal and rubber. They’re a simple way to upgrade the inside of your car.
39. Bumper Stickers
Bumper stickers are a fun way to show off your ideas or jokes. Some say things about EVs or clean energy. You can stick them on and peel them off without hurting the paint.
For bumper sticker ideas, here are some of the most popular ones on Amazon.
40. Mini Fridge
A mini fridge lets you keep drinks or snacks cold in your Tesla. It fits in the trunk or back seat and plugs in easily. Great for road trips or hot days.
However, keep in mind that Tesla has adjusted its software many times. If you’re away from your car or in camp mode overnight, it can stop delivering power through the back 12V outlet. If that’s still the case, you might want a portable battery pack as well.
